Stephen Colbert, the undisputed king of late night (according to ratings), is here to stay — well, for another three years.
CBS CEO George Cheeks revealed that Colbert will continue his reign as the host of the network’s top-rated late night show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, through 2026. This contract extension comes as a delightful surprise for fans, as Colbert’s current pact was set to expire this year.
“We just extended him for three more years, and I was praying for that to happen,” Cheeks told Deadline.
Colbert’s continued presence on late-night television brings some much-needed stability to CBS during a transitional period. In April, James Corden bid farewell to his long-running The Late Late Show after eight years, which will be replaced by former Comedy Central series @midnight.
Colbert is far and away the most likely late night host to really go there with his guests. He often presents a (slightly) more intellectual take on the news and pop culture events than his peers. Check out some of his most real moments and takeaways here.
