After removing CDs in 2018, electronics superstore Best Buy is now ending the sale of all physical media in their stores.
Streaming and digital downloads have become the most popular way for people to watch movies, so it’s not really a surprise to see Best Buy get rid of their DVD and Blu-ray stock. Over the last decade, physical media sales have decreased significantly.
“Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy,” a Best Buy representative told the Associated Press.
With streaming media increasingly available, you might wonder why you’d want to own a physical copy of movies and TV shows on your Blu-ray Discs and DVDs. Well, you might want to be entertained in a part of the world without Internet access—like when you’re watching TV in a remote cabin get-away or keeping the kids entertained while they’re in the car. Plus, serious fans of certain TV shows like to own libraries of their favorite movies and shows for marathon-watching sessions or loaning to friends.
Reports have begun that Best Buy is already removing DVDs from the shelves, so you may want to stock up while you still can.
